The title of this series is taken from a country song by Craig Morgan and will be used by us to highlight and celebrate the seven things that happen here in community every Sunday at Eastview Christian Church. July 26th – Communion – I Corinthians 11:17-29 Our series will begin with a teaching on the meaning behind our weekly part of worship in which we celebrate the body and blood of Jesus. From the time of the church in Corinth to the present, this symbolic sacrament has been practiced by all Christians for nearly 2,000 years. We will celebrate together a special time of communion on this Sunday. August 2nd – Fellowship – Hebrews 10:22-25 “Let us” is the dominating idea from this passage in the book of Hebrews. In these phrases we find insight into how our Sunday morning worship calls us to true fellowship and why this is so important to our spiritual growth. In this teaching we will be encouraged to place a high priority on doing five things in community here. August 9th – Musical worship – Ephesians 5:19-20 This passage that follows Paul’s exhortation to be filled with the Spirit gives indication that singing is to be part of our praise and thanks to God through Jesus Christ. An extended time of musical worship will accompany our time in the word. August 16 – Prayer – Ephesians 6:18-20 This teaching on prayer will mark the beginning of our month-long emphasis on prayer leading into our fall kick-off. In this passage we will take a deeper look at how the apostle encouraged the Ephesian church to pray. We will leave a significant time in the morning service time for prayer. August 23 – Offering – Acts 4:32-37 This passage will examine the spirit of giving that marked the early church. By examining the giving practices of our spiritual ancestors we will learn why our time of offering each Sunday is such an integral part of church. August 30 – Baptism – Romans 6:1-7 This teaching will focus on the symbolism of baptism as a picture of the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord. The sermon will highlight a special baptism Sunday in which we will encourage people to respond to the invitation to join Christ in his death so that they will “certainly be united with him in his resurrection.” September 6 – Preaching – II Timothy 3:16&17 Dr. J.K. Jones, preacher and teacher of preachers, will challenge our people on the deep value of preaching in the church today. He will illuminate Paul’s challenge to the young preacher Timothy and call us to uphold the place of the preached word in our weekly gathering.
