What I Love About Sundays The title of this series is taken from a country song by Craig Morgan and will be used by us to highlight and celebrate the seven things that happen here in community every Sunday at Eastview Christian Church.
The Big Finish This series will conclude our year in Deuteronomy by reiterating many of the key teachings that lead to the end of Moses’ life and the people of God moving into the Promised Land.
You Asked For It This four week series will be taken from Chapters 22-25 of Deuteronomy which are filled with dozens of obscure and puzzling laws and regulations for the people of God. These sermons will be Scriptures/topics chosen by the people of Eastview for each week’s sermon. They will ask for it, and we will preach it.
Pictures of JesusJesus is the fulfillment of Old Testament in many ways. One of them is that he fills all Spiritual offices at once. He is prophet, priest and king. No man ever held all of these, but we do have teachings for how each of these were to live as they served the people of God. As we examine each role, we will learn about those requirements and how Christ fulfilled them.
April 12 - Easter :: Life You Can Believe In
Nothing Specific This series does not have a theme since the following five passages don’t necessarily tie together. We will simply examine each teaching from week to week to hear God speaking into our lives.
Worship Although we have a “worship service” every Sunday, we know the Bible teaches that our reasonable act of worship is to live every minute of every day for the glory of God (presenting ourselves as living sacrifices). This series will help us define what the daily worship looks like as Moses explains living a life before God.
Chosen (January 4 - 18) One of the great themes of Deuteronomy is for the people to remember that God picked them of all the nations in the earth to be his chosen – his treasured possession – simply because He wanted to. We also, in the church are brought near to God for no other reason than He chose us. We will study for three Sundays how blessed we are to be the chosen people of God.
December 28 - Celebration Sunday (I Chronicles 16:8-36) We end the year by seeing how David reflected on his greatest moment. We will look back and celebrate what God has done for us through the year and look forward for what God has in store for us in the new year.
| | The Bible Jesus Knew (November 30 - December 21) This series focuses on some quotes from the book of Deuteronomy that Jesus used in his ministry. As a matter of fact all of the Scripture quotes from his temptation in the desert were from Deuteronomy. |
Generations (November 23) This week we examine the roles that generations play in our walk of faith.
The X (September 7 - November 16) This twelve week series will kick off our Fall season with a study through the ten commandments. Again Moses is setting these ten words (Roman numeral X) as the laws God requires for the lives of his people. Thousands of years and a few deserts later, these laws tell those in the 21st century how to live.
Leaders Last Words (August 17 - 31) In chapter four of Deuteronomy, Moses gives three major instructions from his heart to these people he has led. If he were limited to three instructions, this chapter would sum up all he would say to these people he had led for nearly 40 years.
Legacy (July 6 - August 10) The book of Deuteronomy was written near the end of Moses’ life as a kind of reminder of where the people of God had been. He recounted their history and their legacy and encouraged them to move forward to ensure that his legacy of leadership remained long after his death. We will look at the legacy of the people of God in the wilderness to help us establish our legacy in the church.
Two Words (June 15 - June 29) This series focuses on three famous "two word" passages from Scripture. While it may seemed simple-minded to think two words can summarize such big things as Jesus, relationships and the purpose of our life on earth, these two word passages present a significant challenge that will radically challenge how we live our lives.
| Breakthrough (May 25 - June 8)
This short series focused on articulating our mission statement to be a "breakthrough church of thousands who are intensely dedicated to Christ and passionately engaged in outreach." |
Unplug :: Sabbath (April 27 - May 18) This series focuses on one of God's teachings that is so often ignored by the culture we live in. God tells us that we need to regularly rest and yet we live lives where rest is an afterthought. From teens to grandparents, most people push to their limits and wonder why their souls are so dry. In these sermons we teach about slowing down and resting in the Father.
Identity (March 30 - April 20) We spend the four Sundays after Easter examining who we are in Christ. It is important to understand that when we give our lives to Jesus, we become what we could never become on our own. This series examines the promises of Scripture about who we are.
Resurrection (March 23) On Easter we focus on a different resurrection story. In Acts 17, Luke tells a story about Paul's encounter with some of the philosophers in his day. Paul's message to them concluded with Jesus' resurrection on the first Easter.
