Identity
We will spend the four Sundays after Easter examining who we are in Christ. It is important to understand that when we give our lives to Jesus, we become what we could never become on our own. This series will examine the promises of Scripture about who we are. This teaching will assure all who follow Christ that they have been completely saved from the darkness that held them and that they have been given forgiveness through Him. Our identity begins when Christ loves us and saves us from ourselves. This teaching against sexual sin to the Corinthian church reveals a truth about us in the closing verses of the chapter. My identity is not mine to do what I want with it. I have been bought by God and belong to him. I am not my own. Not only has Jesus rescued us from eternal darkness but he has saved us to be a part of his body the church. This teaching from Corinthians will show that our identity is part of a larger body. We discover our selves in discovering where we fit in the church. This one verse has more about what we are and what we are for than almost any verse in the Bible. Our identity is given worth because we are the very handiwork of God. It is given purpose because he made us to do good works.
